Shivaji Tupe

Shivaji Tupe was born in 1935 into a family that had a rich artistic tradition. His interest in drawing since early childhood, therefore comes as no surprise. He completed his higher studies in drawing from the J. J. School of Art, in 1957. Watercolour landscapes and sketches are his forte. He is actively working in the field of landscape painting for more than fifty years. He has travelled many a place in India in search of subjects for landscape painting.

Along with a variety of subjects, he has used watercolour, oil paint, opaque watercolour, acrylics, as his mediums to express his creative urge. In addition he has worked a lot in pen and ink medium in free way. His works are a delightful blend of the old and the new in Art. To date he has held more than thirty solo exhibitions. He has also participated in shows organised by Bombay Art Society, Maharashtra State Art Exhibition, Lalit Kala Akademi and Academy of Fine Arts - Amritsar.He has made a major contribution towards the development of the 'Nashik Kala Niketan'. Among the many awards won by him, the 'K. R. Paranjape Gunjan Kala Puraskar' is an important achievement.
