
Maruti Patil
Born in Belgaum on 25th April 1945, Maruti Patil loved drawing and painting since childhood. His elder sister encouraged him to paint and after completing school, he started his Art studies in Belgaum. He was fortunate to have renowned artist Mr. K.B. Kulkarni as his mentor. He and his friend renowned artist Mr. John Fernandes used to practise drawing and painting constantly. Maruti Patil likes to paint still life, figurative painting, watercolour landscapes and also oil painting.
After studying Applied Art from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, Patil worked in the advertising field for a few years. Then he taught at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya for over 35 years. After retiring as the principal their, he was also the principal of D.Y. Patil College of Art for 5 years. He is very particular about flawless drawing, and teaches about its importance to his students as well.
During his tenure at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya as a teacher, he also continued to paint in various mediums such as pencil, colour pencil, pastel, watercolour, oils etc. Many art lovers in India and abroad have his paintings in their collections.
He has also won awards from Bombay Art Society, Art Society of India, among others for his work. His wife Neela has always been by his side during this journey.
